What is Probability?

Probability is the measure of the likelihood that an event will occur. It is quantified as a number between 0 and 1, where 0 indicates impossibility and 1 indicates certainty.

Probability Formula

For a single event, probability is calculated as:

P(A) = Number of Favorable Outcomes / Total Number of Possible Outcomes

For multiple events:

Independent Events: P(A and B) = P(A) × P(B)
Dependent Events: P(A and B) = P(A) × P(B|A)
Mutually Exclusive: P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)

Real-life Examples

Coin Toss: Probability of heads = 1/2 = 0.5

Dice Roll: Probability of rolling a 6 = 1/6 ≈ 0.1667

Cards: Probability of drawing an Ace = 4/52 ≈ 0.0769
