📘 student guidelines

1. Always find longest carbon chain including functional group.
2. Number from nearest functional group / multiple bond / substituent.
3. Substituents in alphabetical order (bromo before chloro).
4. For double/triple bond at equal distance, double bond gets lower number.
5. Common names like isopropyl, tert‑butyl still appear; IUPAC systematic preferred.
6. Memorize priority order: –COOH > –CHO > –OH > –NH2 etc.
Keep practicing, use flashcards for polyfunctional compounds.
